Recently, a video of Jamie talking to fans about his experience surfaced on social media. According to NBC, the recording date of the video is unclear. In it, Jamie explains that on April 11, 2023, he had a severe headache and asked a friend for an Advil. He then says, "I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything." His sister and daughter took him to a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot, but another doctor found something concerning and suggested further tests.
Jamie has kept many details about the incident and his lengthy recovery to himself. In July, he reflected, “I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through. I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through.”
In December, Jamie made his first public appearance since his hospitalization at the Critics Choice Awards. He told the audience, “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It’s different.”
This spring, Jamie promised to share more about his experience and hinted at a comedy special. “I’ve gotta do it in my way,” he said. “I’m gonna do it in a funny way. We’re gonna be on the stage. We’re gonna get back to the stand-up sort of roots.”
